Introduction:One of the most common side effects after chemotherapy is stress, nausea and vomiting. Therefore, the use of nursing theories can play a significant role in managing disease conditions and promoting the health of individuals. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of determining The effect of the care program based on the comfort theory on the level of stress and nausea and vomiting of children undergoing chemotherapy. Methods:This two-group semi-experimental study was conducted on 60 children with cancer referred to the oncology department of Kashani Hospital, Shahrekord, who were selected by convenience sampling method and placed in two experimental groups (30 people) and control groups (30 people). The data collection tools were demographic information form, Cohen's perceived stress questionnaire, and Rhodes questionnaire. Educational and care intervention based on the comfort care model for the experimental group in three stages of relief or release, ease, and excellence was performed by the researcher before chemotherapy during a 2-hour session for each child face-to-face. No intervention was performed for the control group and routine care was provided to them. Cohen's perceived stress questionnaire and Rhodes' nausea and vomiting questionnaire were measured before the intervention and 24 hours after the intervention, and the two groups were compared. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation) and inferential tests (chi-square, Fisher's exact, paired t-test, independent two-sample t-test, and analysis of covariance) using SPSS 26 software. Results:The mean stress score before intervention in the control group17.93 and the test 22.93was statistically significantly differentp=0.002.The mean stress score after the intervention in the control group 22.90 and the test group18.50 was statistically significantly different p<0.001The mean nausea and vomiting score before the intervention in the control group16.23and the test group21.57was statistically significantly different p<0.001 . The mean nausea and vomiting score after the intervention in the control group20.10and the test group 13.87was statistically significantly differentp<0.001. Conclusion: According to the results, the use of a care program based on the comfort theory was effective in reducing stress, nausea and vomiting in children undergoing chemotherapy. Therefore, this care model is recommended for children undergoing chemotherapy.
