Introduction:Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the world and the most common type of cancer in developed countries. Considering that dealing with cancer is one of the health priorities, which can be prevented and, in some cases, treated, with the necessary approaches; The present study was conducted with the aim of comprehensively investigating the knowledge and explaining the levels of prevention in breast cancer.
Methods:The present study is a narrative review, which was conducted after searching for articles in English and Persian in the period from 2015 to 2023, through the international and national databases SID, Science Direct, Google Scholar, Pubmed, Magiran, Scopus. Web of Science was searched with the keywords "cancer", "prevention", "primary level", "secondary level", "tertiary level" and "screening" along with their English equivalents. Among the 55 articles searched, finally 12 articles were selected and made the final review.
Result:
One of the best ways to deal with diseases is primary prevention. Primary prevention is recommended in the form of lifestyle changes, avoiding risk factors and educating people about breast cancer screening methods. Secondary prevention includes: screening methods, currently mammography is the most effective method in breast cancer detection. Tertiary prevention focuses on preventing the recurrence of the primary cancer and screening for the development of secondary malignancies in cancer survivors.
Conclusion:Considering the increase in the number of breast cancer cases in developing countries including Iran, informing people about the early symptoms of this type of cancer can lead to success in its prevention. As in all diseases, prevention is cheaper and better than treatment; It is the same in breast cancer.
