Dear Editor
Studies show that nurses' exposure to clinical areas can lead to the experience of various emotional and psychological issues. In the meantime, dealing with cancer patients, who are in the early stages of accepting the disease and the emergence of unique symptoms and complications of chemotherapy, can be a painful experience for nurses. While they must strive for the physical and mental health of these patients (1), they themselves are affected by the suffering of this group of patients. Therefore, working with this group of patients and their families is very emotionally challenging (3, 2). Unfortunately, the lack of psychological preparation to care for a cancer patient puts nurses in a weak position and Needs support (7-4).
Attention to the psychological needs of students, who are the future makers of nursing in the country, is essential in educating a healthy and efficient generation that can use its knowledge and skills for professional patient care (8). Universities should enhance the learning environment and improve student learning by providing facilities. But this attention must be expressed in all aspects and the effects of the care environment on the psyche of students must also be considered.
Studies have pointed out the importance of theoretical and clinical preparation of students in dealing with cancer patients (5, 4) and believed that nurses and first of all nursing students should gain the necessary experience to deal with such situations along with a qualified instructor. کردن. They also pointed out the importance of nursing students' adaptation to the patient and family for the care of cancer patients (9, 4-5).
Since the psychological preparation of nurses in dealing with this group of patients is very important at all levels (10). Prior to graduation, it is recommended that students become familiar with challenging care situations, such as caring for a cancer patient, and learn ways to communicate effectively with the patient while protecting themselves emotionally. Creating a supportive learning environment will help students deal with the patient undergoing chemotherapy and provide effective care. It is also suggested that by employing professors of psychology and interprofessional teaching while presenting a theoretical or practical unit, the psychological needs of students should be considered and, of course, students should be acquainted with how to provide psychological support to patients to provide more effective care. .
